Best Books of the Year So Far…..

Reading a bookRead any good books lately? My reserved list at the library is growing for my summer reading but here are a few of my favorites from the winter and spring.

  1. Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline (http://amzn.to/1cH8fLw) Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and I loved this book. Set in both the past and the present, the lives of two women unfold in a compelling story that I couldn’t put down.
  2. A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler (http://amzn.to/1T7PlyS) This book is a Pulitzer Prize winner so get ready for a long, detailed, superbly written family saga. Like in many great writings, the ending was a little loose but I savored this book as well.
  3. Table in the Darkness: A Healing Journey Through an Eating Disorder by Lee Wolfe Blum (http://amzn.to/1JzPRCV) This fast moving memoir read like a novel and is a powerful look at the journey in and out of an eating disorder. You probably know or will know someone in this place. Highly recommend!
  4. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo (http://amzn.to/1JzQBrx) Fascinating! I can’t say I endorse all of her concepts but it got me grabbing a garbage bag and going to work on my home.
  5. Better than Before by Gretchen Rubin (http://amzn.to/1cH9oCL) OK, I have a few more pages to go on this one because I am reading it slowly but I have learned so much and am very inspired to pay attention to the power of habits.
  6. Special mention: Glitter and Glue by Kelly Corrigan (http://amzn.to/1B1Ny8x) Another memoir with a mother and daughter theme that ends well 🙂

Soon I’ll post about my summer list but in the meantime check out my friend Carol’s weekly blog on books: http://www.cecooney.com  You’ll find a good one there!

Hope for the best,

Tish
